Essay On A Public Function.Last week I had a chance to attend a public function in my mohalla. Mozang. Lahore. It was a very interesting gathering. I had been invited to the function by the organisers as an observer. The function was organised by Anjuman-i-Rifah-i-Aam. Mozang, to inaugurate their first high school for girls.; The Director of Education. Lahore. was the chief guest.
As the function was to start at 4 p.m. sharp. The guests started to arrive since 3.30 p.m. The organise;rs have made good seating arrangements for the visiters. The funcIion was held in an open space under a wide canopy. There was a raised platform, for the speaker and distinguished guests. The stage secretary. Mr. Tahir Mahmood. But, was extremely busy as he wanted to get every thing ready before the arrival of the chief guest.
The function started exactly' at 4.0 p.m. First of all, there was a recitation from the Holy Quran. Then the stage secretary. requested the president Of the Anjuman to read out his welcome address and report on the working of the Anjuman. The president of the Anjuman Mr. Shahbaz Ahmad. read out a long report and described in details-with what aims this Anjuman was founded. He also aarrated in details, the ,achievements of the Anjuman during the last ten years. and the difficulties they had to face.
Then he welcomed the chief guest and visitors in a befitting way and told something about the new school which they were going to inaugurate in this function. On the whole. the impression created by the speech of Mr. Shahbaz was that of praise for the Anjuman.
After the welcome address. the chief guest was requested to address the gathering. He spoke in a very fine way. After thanking the organisers of the function. he appreciated the services of the Anjuman in the field of education and social work. He also told that as Director of Education, he would be glad to extend every help to the Anjuman to run the school on the right lines. The need for a girls high school would be able to serve the people well. The speech of the chief guest was very inspiring and the audience clapped their
hand with joy.
In the end, the guests were served with tea and light refreshment. The function was a great success and the people of the locality felt highly, honoured by the visit of distinguished guest.
